SUMMARY:Cafecito con... Pablo Delano: The Museum of the Old Colony & the Biennale di Venezia 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join CENTRO alongside artist Pablo Delano and art historian Laura Katzman of James Madison University on October 24th as they discuss The Museum of the Old Colony\, its themes\, its aesthetics\, and how the exhibition has evolved over time. This ongoing\, site-specific\, conceptual art installation by visual artist Pablo Delano addresses the complex history of Puerto Rico after the Spanish-American War of 1898\, when the Caribbean archipelago was seized by the United States military from Spain as a “possession.” The Museum of the Old Colony has been exhibited nationally and around the world\, from the Duke Hall Gallery of Fine Art at James Madison University—its most extensive presentation in the U.S. to date—to its current iteration at the 2024 Biennale di Venezia\, where it is situated at the heart of Foreigners Everywhere\, the main exhibition of the Biennale that remains on view through November 26\, 2024. An earlier version of the installation forms part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Juan\, Puerto Rico (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto Credit: Delano by Jeannie Galowitz
