SUMMARY:(Partner Event) Mesoamerican Pop: Paintings and Drawings by Miguel Trelles
DESCRIPTION:About the show: Miguel Trelles’ ongoing painting series\, MESOAMERICAN POP\, addresses the compelling beauty of figurative pre-Columbian drawing and sculpture\, combining it with North American pop culture elements from the sequential art tradition to formulate a Pan American visual syncretism that is as visually arresting as it is historically encompassing.

SUMMARY:(Partner Event) Opening Reception of ALMA: Echoes of the Nuyorican Movement
DESCRIPTION:Taller Boricua presents ALMA: Echoes of the Nuyorican Movement\, an exhibition honoring over five decades of Puerto Rican artistic expression and cultural resistance. Founded in 1969\, Taller Boricua has been a vital hub for Puerto Rican artists in New York\, offering a space for creative freedom and activism. The exhibition showcases key works from the iconic 30th Anniversary Portfolio\, which pairs visual art and poetry by notable Nuyorican artists\, reflecting the intersection of culture\, identity\, and social justice. The portfolio includes work by Rafael Tufiño\, Diogenes Ballester\, Gloria Rodriguez (RoCa)\, Nitza Tufiño\, Fernando Salicrup\, Marcos Dimas\, and Juan Sanchez\, alongside poets Jesús Papoleto Meléndez\, Pedro Pietri\, Tania Niomi\, María Boncher\, Hector Rivera\, y Mariposa (María Teresa Fernández Rosario).\n\nThe exhibition also features new works by current members of the Rafael Tufiño Printshop\, ensuring that the traditions of Puerto Rican printmaking continue to thrive. While distinct\, this exhibition at Taller Boricua resonates with The Latinx Project’s efforts to focus on the Diasporican experience. Together\, these initiatives highlight the ongoing evolution and expansion of the Nuyorican identity and art. We invite visitors to attend The Latinx Project’s programming and explore these rich narratives\, gaining complete insight into this moment of reflection and connection and engaging with the evolving futures of the Nuyorican and Diasporican communities.\n\nTaller Boricua Galleries: 1680 Lexington Avenue\, Harlem\, NYC\, New York 10029. SUMMARY:(Partner Event) Our Love is a Shady Garden
DESCRIPTION:Yanira Vissepó blends painting\, natural dyes\, block printing and collage in her practice which centers around the study and celebration of the ecosystems between her birthplace in Puerto Rico and adopted home in Tennessee. The naturally dramatic landscape of Puerto Rico’s tropical rainforest and saturated colors in native plant life merge with the striking change of seasons seen in Tennessee\, creating lush and vibrant paintings. Vissepó uses organic materials and natural pigments\, drawing from Japanese printmaking traditions. Both the materials and imagery speak to her long-time interest in herbalism and holistic healing that began as an important means of self-care before manifesting in her artistic practice. Generous swaths of blue\, green and red are created using a stain painting method that add depth and texture to the surface\, with collaged floral and plant images delicately stitched onto the canvas or fabric.
